Sports Medicine in Aquatic Sports – the 21 century!

The Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA), Moscow Government, the All-Russian Swimming Federation with the support of the Ministry for Physical Education, Sports and Tourism of Russian Federation, Russian Olympic
Committee, and Ministry for Public Health of Russian Federation are pleased to announce the XXIV FINA World Sports Medicine Congress.
The theme of the Congress is “Sports Medicine in Aquatic Sports – the 21st century”.

We invite you to attend this event of great scientific importance and come to Moscow on the occasion of the Congress.

Moscow is one of the biggest cities in Europe and in the world. In 1997 Moscow celebrated its 850th anniversary. Today Moscow is a huge metropolis with 1000 sq. km of territory and more than 10 million of population.

Moscow is an important scientific and cultural center. There are more than 100 theatres and concert halls, 350 art galleries and more than 100 museums in our capital. Nearly 500 000 students study in 80 state universities and high schools.

There are a lot of scientific research and educational institutions for Physical Education in Moscow. Among them there are world-famous Scientific and Research Institute for Physical Education and Russian State Academy for Physical Education, whose staff will take an important part in the scientific provision of the Congress.

Moscow is the center of sports life of our country. There are 160 sports arenas, including 31 stadiums, 18 sports palaces and 92 swimming pools. These facilities provide all the necessary conditions for staging major international competitions.

New professional swim team in Amsterdam
From September 1st on, Amsterdam (The Netherlands) will have his own professional swim team, as an answer to the team in Eindhoven where Pieter van den Hoogenband and Inge de Bruijn are swimming. Chef d'ambition Cees Vervoorn (multiple Olympic swimmer and coach) build up this swim team named 'Top Zwemmen Amsterdam' (Top Swimming Amsterdam), together with Michiel Bloem and Hans Elzerman. Coach of this team with 7 members will be Fedor Hes, a young talented coach, who has been the assistant coach of Ad van der Ven (2000 Olympic coach) at AZ&PC Amersfoort the last few years. They are going to set up an individualized program for the swimmers that has to guide them to the 2004 Olympics.

Euro women beat World All-stars at Goodwills
.BRISBANE, Aug. 30. THE European women's team had no mercy on the World All-Star squad, winning 15 of the 17 events contested and stomping the global gang, 107-42.

Martina Moravcova had the best swim of the meet, clocking 58.30 in the 100 fly. She also split 58.01 on the winning medley relay.

Double Olympic champion Yana Klochkova won three individual events, taking both medleys (2:14.96 and 4:41.66) and the 200 back (2:16.34).

Three other European were double winners: Antje Buschschulte took the 50 and 100 back in 29.52 and 1:02.25; Elena Popchenko won the 50 (25.63) and 100 free (56.19); and Beatrice Coada-Caslaru took the 100 and 200 breast in 1:10.84 and 2:28.61. Actually, Caslaru was beaten to the wall by the World Team's Ruan Yi in the 100 (1:10.73), but Ruan was disqualified. Inge de Bruijn won the 50 fly (26.48).

Japan's Maki Mita and China's Tang Jingwen were the only World Team swimmers to win today. Mita took the 200 free in 2:00.90 while Tang won the 400 in 4:12.91.
